A new DAC architecture is presented that is capable of very high dynamic range. This new architecture uses a multi-bit sigma-delta converter together with noise-shaping scrambling and a current-steered output stage to achieve 116 dB SNR and 103 dB THD+N. The gain of the output stage is set by an external reference current, and thus can function as a current-controlled gain stage.
