Broadcasters' analogue tape libraries need to be transferred to digital. However, this national property has to be conserved adequately. Due to the size of most archives, a real-time only transfer would result in excessive labor and unaffordable cost. Some broadcasters already calculate with more than 10-man years duplicating effort. A technology was developed, which allows high-speed transfer of analogue tapes and cassettes. The paper will describe aspects, problems and solutions of this development.
