Long Term Predictor for Transform Domain Perceptual Audio Coding

Document Thumbnail

Backward adaptive prediction between consequent coding frames has been used in transform domain perceptual audio coders, such as MPEG AAC, to improve the coding gain with stationary or pseudostationary signals. This paper describes a forward adaptive approach which achieves similar coding efficiency at a significantly lower complexity. Additionally, this predictor provides potential for better error resilience and editability. Comparison is made of two previously used and proposed backward adaptive predictors. In addition to simulations, the main results of coding efficiency have been verified with listening tests.
