Strategy for Enhanced Computer User Interfaces Using Exaggerated Spatial Audio

Document Thumbnail

Spatialization of sound in user interfaces is discussed. With increased use of audio, allowing spatial discrimination should increase usability and performance. Our spatial audio strategy uses monitor-side loudspeakers and crosstalk-cancellation. In mapping auditory space onto the interface's visual space, we exaggerate directional audio cues and incorporate auditory distance. A series of pilot tests confirm that this strategy retains audio-visual cohesion.
