This paper will identify and discuss rights management issues that have to be solved in the digital domain in order to ensure the continued viability of music-related commerce. It discusses the principles of copyright ownership and how they may be upheld through the development and evolution of new licensing mechanisms and the infrastructure requirements to support them.
