The concept of wave field synthesis is applied to audio reproduction in living rooms, cinemas, and theaters. The concept offers correct spatial and temporal sound field reproduction in a large listening area surrounded by loudspeaker arrays. The authors have examined electrodynamic and electrostatic arrays under practical circumstances. The results of listening tests concerning coloration and localization of virtual sources are presented.
