Conventional headphones produce sound images localized within the head of the listener. Using DSP, the authors attempted to develop a headphone that changes in real time the HRTF synchronized with the head movement of listener. The head movement is sensed by a gyroscope inside the headphones. This 3-D headphone system can reproduce a natural sound field similar to that produced by a loudspeaker system.
