Quantisation Noise in Perfect Reconstruction Filterbanks and Its Consequences for High Fidelity Audio Compression

The effects of quantization noise in high-fidelity audio coders has been analyzed by incorporating a quantization noise model into the time domain aliasing cancellation (TDAC) filter bank. Separate expressions for signal reconstruction error, aliasing error, and reconstructed quantization noise are found. These allow the quantizer parameters to be optimized to reduce the subjective effects of these errors and permit greater flexibility when designing waveform coders for high-quality audio signals.:
