Recent technologies such as MPEG, PCMCIA, ISDN, and GPS initially were individually developed for different applications. This paper focuses on the integration of these technologies in practical audio applications and discusses case studies of public announcement systems, portable solid-state field-location recorders, digital logging-machines, and interactive training systems. Case studies of two practical examples will present the technology in more detail and give some insights into the advantages over conventional implementations.
