Given the diverse technology mix of a modern facility, the seamless integration of its components becomes critical. Without the broad acceptance of an industry standard communications protocol, an effective operating environment must be -multilingual.- By coordinating often unique protocols in the background while employing a common user interface, the system described in this paper enables the whole to be greater than the sum of its parts.
