In the investigation of mechanical parameter nonlinearities of low-frequency loudspeakers with single-roll suspension, a systematic variation of the mass with diaphragm position has been revealed. The variation turns out to be associated with a variation in the effective area of the diaphragm. The variations are described and documented, and some consequences of the variations are discussed. The work presented is a part of the Danish LoDist project.
