Fifteen years have passed since the introduction of the Laser Disc (LD) and Compact Disc (CD). During this period, the production technologies of short wavelength red laser diodes and high-precision optical discs have been developed. This fact resulted in a large capacity, 5- GB per side (single layer) or 9-GB per side (dual layer), Super Density (SD) format read-only optical disc. In this paper the application of the disc for audio, such as 96- kHz sampling 24-bit high-quality audio, is discussed.
