The hardware 'under the hood' of a large digital console is presented. Numerous problems inherent in the design of a large signal processor are discussed, particularly those relating to the interconnection of both audio and contol data. Solutions to these problems are presented in terms of the design of a processor at the silicon, circuit board, backplane, and input/output levels.
