Perceptual audio coders use a nonlinear, Bark related frequency scale to analyze and quantize signals. However, harmonic signals reveal their harmonic structure on the linear frequency scale. This paper presents a solution to improve the modulation of the quantization noise when perceptual coders are coding harmonic signals. The technique can also be used for other purposes, namely, in multipitch identifications.
