Noise Reduction in Old Musical Recordings Using the Perceptual Coding of Audio

Document Thumbnail

The new concepts of perceptual coding related to noise reduction in old musical recordings are reviewed in the paper. The noise taken from a nonmodulated groove of a record was analyzed in the frequency domain and average noise in each subband was found. The musical signal was perceptually coded considering calculated noise in order to shift masking threshold beyond this noise level. Some tests of noise reduction in old musical recordings were performed. The results are presented.
