The audio literature is varied and confusing on the phenomenon of diffraction. Some fundamental theoretical and practical work has been carried out in an attempt to clarify the issues. Some simple measurements corroborate the evidence of a study using acoustic finite-element analysis. This paper reports on the results and provides clear information on the reality of the matter.
