Vertically Symmetric Two-Way Loudspeaker Arrays Reconsidered

Document Thumbnail

Previous work has demonstrated that a vertically symmetrical arrangement of three loudspeaker drivers in a two-way configuration (also know as (3,2) or D'Appolito configuration) results in a system that is free of lobing error and polar axis tilt. In this paper it is shown that typical (3,2) systems exhibit off-axis response irregularities which are not predicted by a simple lobing error analysis. Additional analysis leads to new constraints to prevent such off-axis irregularities.
