In broadcasting the use of coded audio is common. These systems use forms of data reduction and/or compression techniques. This is a challenge for dynamic range signal processors. Considering that nonlinear properties of both an audio codec and a broadcast audio processor being used on-air, audible penalties will be paid. This paper discusses the difficulties and presents ideas on how to overcome them.
