Pseudo-Stereo and Surround Sound by Matched FIR Filters

Document Thumbnail

Pseudo-stereo methods use standard filters to manipulate magnitude and phase. The paper proposes a method that estimates further channels from the basic channels with matched FIR filters. The filter coefficients are calculated during the encoding in an optimization process and transmitted only once. The influence of the filter length is discussed with sound examples. The application to MPEG-Surround and to free-talking telephone is described.
