From the Cone to the Cochlea: Modelling the Complete Acoustical Path

Document Thumbnail

A unified evaluation model for an audio system is presented, which eliminates the need for a human listener as the arbiter of performance. The model includes knowledge of the loudspeaker polar response, the frequency dependent room reverberation, and the psychoacoustic profile of a typical human subject by including a set of head-related transfer functions. The method recognizes the cost penalty of using subjective testing, whereby simulating the entire acoustical path including aspects of human response, rapid and efficient testing can be performed in multiple environments with guaranteed repeatability and calibration.
