Practical Modeling of Nonlinear Audio Systems Using the Volterra Series

Document Thumbnail

A method is described to reduce the unrealistic number of coefficients required for a Volterra series representation of a nonlinear system where the linear response dominates over the nonlinear response. This condition is true for most audio systems, so reducing the significant portions of the Volterra series kernels to be measured is necessary. The reduction technique is illustrated with some actual circuit measurements using an existing Volterra identification method, and the issue of excitation amplitude is discussed.
