A New Perceptual Quality Measure for Bit-Rate Reduced Audio

Document Thumbnail

For the quality evaluation of perceptual audio codecs appropriate measurement algorithms are needed which detect and assess audible artifacts by comparing the output of the codec with the uncoded reference. A filterbank-based perceptual model is presented, which yields better temporal resolution than FFT-based approaches and, thus, allows a more precise modeling of pre- and postmasking and a refined analysis of the envelope within each filter channel.
