A new approach for noise thresholds calculation in audio coding is introduced. The proposed scheme relies on a nonuniform filterbank analysis of the signal and on energy-spreading curves inside the cochlea as objective measurement tools do. The shape of the analysis filters matches the human auditory filters, thus temporal effects are taken into account.
