A possible approach to understanding the information processing performed by the human auditory system which permits the reduction of the relevant sound-signal data rate is offered. The given algorithm is used in solving the problem of high-quality sound signal digital flow-rate reduction from 16 to 2 bits/sample and provides an improved Musicam algorithm without decoder change.
