The sound field at the listening point in control rooms depends on direct sound, first reflections, and diffuse sound. It is produced by two or more loudspeakers that carefully maintain this sound structure, not adding disturbing first sound parts, as is often seen in impulse diagrams such as the Loudspeaker Package (LP). Only sound reflections, such as Direct Sound Package (DSP), within 0 to around 15 ms are allowed when they arrive from the studio or the podium of the orchestra. 0 ms indicates the first pressure front of DSP. It is shown that within this time gap musical instruments have their special decay property and the essential first reflections occur at the recording microphone in the studio. The consequences for the control room with two or five loudspeakers are discussed.
