The dynamic range of audio programs is often larger than the reproduction dynamic range available at home or in a noisy environment. This paper proposes a dynamic range control (DRC) system for multichannel audio systems using the ISO/MPEG-2 Audio Standard, which is mostly compatible with that standardized for the two-channel European DAB and may be applicable to Digital Video Broadcasting, multichannel DAB, or other transmission or storage systems of multichannel audio with or without accompanying picture.
