A novel family of modulator and power stage structures suitable for digital power amplification is presented. Parallel phase-shifted carrier pulse-width modulation (PSCPWM) is a new multilevel modulation method which reduces switching noise considerably and increases the effective sampling frequency. A general theoretical analysis of the tonal behavior of PSCPWM is provided, and several examples illustrate the new possibilities.
