By making use of microphone and loudspeaker arrays, a new generation of multichannel audio systems can be designed with unique sound properties. If the objective is sound analysis, microphone arrays and embedded matrix processors facilitate accurate characterization of complex wave fields. If the objective is sound synthesis, loudspeaker arrays and embedded matrix processors facilitate accurate emission of any desired wave field. Multichannel analysis and synthesis can be integrated in one system.
