Generation of Diffuse Reverberation by Plane Wave Synthesis

Document Thumbnail

Multipurpose auditoria demand variable reverberation which can be accomplished using electroacoustic systems. In order to minimize the complexity of such a system, the control of perceptually redundant information should be avoided. Therefore, the design of such a system should be based on perceptually relevant parameters. It was found that modification of the auditorium's spectral energy decay curve is sufficient to control the temporal properties of the reverberant sound field. The paper describes a proposal to implement this modification by plane wave synthesis from a limited number of directions, thus generating a reverberant sound field with variable diffusiveness.
