Digital Mixing Console Based on a Single Low-Cost DSP

Document Thumbnail

A new digital audio mixing console that uses only one relatively low-cost DSP chip has been developed. Overall components have been kept to a real minimum, with notebook size and weight. Most efforts have been aimed at software programming optimization, yielding a versatile console with several processing algorithms for both live sound reinforcement and project studio 8-track recording. Analog-style operating modes, an ergonomic control panel, and a comprehensive graphical-user interface make the mixing console easy to use. Extensive MIDI control has been implemented to offer total real-time automation. This paper discusses the many design choices and describes the end result.
