The Danish Ministry of Culture project provides historical Danish sound records on a World Wide Web (WWW) server. It was decided to use Real Audio as the codec. In particular, resonances inherent in acoustic pre-1925 records would seem to make this extreme data reduction questionable. The wisdom of using Real Audio is analyzed under various conditions. The results and a discussion are presented.
