In the Netherlands there are a lot of former Catholic churches that were built between 1200 and 1500 centuries. During the 80 years war (1568-1648) a lot of these were taken by the Protestants, and in the 17th and 18th Century big organs were built for use at the services. Many times these instruments are as big as a 4/5 floor house, and as the churches are very big there is a long reverberation time. This gives problems with microphone placing and getting a good balance between the main organ and the positive. Slides with organs pictures, building details and tape examples will complete the paper.
