General Purpose Direct Form 1 IIR Filter Structure for Digital Audio Applications

Document Thumbnail

The DF1 IIR filter structure is the most common structure employed in audio applications. A limiting factor associated with the DF1 structure is the non-linear distribution of the pole/zero locations in the 'z' domain after coefficient quantization. This paper proposes the application of dither to double precision coefficients which permits double precision performance to be achieved with single precision arithmetic. This realization provides a versatile wide band DF1 realization suitable for most audio applications.
