Changes in methods of teaching, as well as approaches to the use of hardware, are necessary to adequately present concepts in surround sound as these concepts shift with new presentation technologies. This paper explores these changes in a real-world teaching environment. The paper focuses on the shift from matrixed four channel to discrete 5.1 mixing within a limited budget.
