Computer-Controlled Attenuator for Subjective Evaluation Systems

Document Thumbnail

A precision buffered step attenuator has been developed for a computer-controlled audio equipment subjective evaluation system. The performance targets set by Olive and Toole have been achieved. In normal use the attenuator compensates for predetermined loudspeaker efficiencies. Between different speaker presentations a separate stepless attenuator fades levels down and then up while step attenuator changes occur. Before and after the level ramping, the stepless attenuator is removed from the signal path. The system design and performance are described in detail.
