A high efficiency audio power amplifier is presented. It consists of a class AB amplifier and a switching mode amplifier, both connected to the output. The switching amplifier reduces the output current of the class AB amplifier. Thus, the new amplifier combines the high efficiency of class D designs with the low distortion of class AB amplifiers.
