Non-Linear Spectral Subtraction with Combined Smoothing Strategies for Broadband Noise Reduction

Document Thumbnail

A broadband noise reduction method based on non-linear spectral subtraction is proposed. To prevent processing distortions in form of musical noise, over-subtraction is applied to the degraded signal spectrum. Furthermore, time-averaging is used to reduce the variance of the estimated signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A masking threshold obtained by spectral smoothing leads to further reduction of audible processing distortions.
