Two years after the organizing meetings of the new AES Standards Committee SC-04-04 Working Group on Microphone Measurement and Characterization of the SC-04 Subcommittee on Acoustics, significant progress has been made on refining methods for measuring microphone performance. The goal is to allow these characteristics to be more clearly described by manufacturers and users alike. This paper is an informal report on the work of SC-04-04, and on other advances in standards and metrology applicable to microphones.
