Robust Coding of High Quality Audio Signals

Document Thumbnail

Low bit-rate coding of high-quality digital signals found a tremendous acceptance in a wide field of standard audio applications. Until now this is not true for studio applications. In the studio lossy audio coding seems to be not acceptable. The paper presents a new coding schemewhich describes the advantages of low bit-rate audio coding and of lossless compression. An analysis by synthesis approach together with the approved time-frequency mapping of MPEG audio achieves mathematically transparent coding. An extension to near-lossless coding enables to combine a constant compression rate with the usability for studio applications.
