Analysis and Synthesis of Room Reverberation Based on a Statistical Time-Frequency Model

Document Thumbnail

This paper reviews and develops a statistical time-frequency model of late reverberation decays, as well as an associated analysis procedure for deriving the "Time Frequency Envelope" of the reverberation from a measured impulse response, based on the notion of "Energy Decay Relief." The models and techniques described are applied to the in situ measurement of diffuse-field HRTFs, characterization and equalization of transducers in diffuse fields, and artificial reverberation and distance control in virtual auditory displays.
