A new method of generating two dimensional diffusers is presented. The new method modulates two different quadratic residue diffuser sequences, which are mutually orthogonal, with an appropriate binary sequence. Such a composite structure can be used to provide a 2D diffuser via the Chinese remainder theorem. In particular the paper will show that it is possible to develop 2D diffusing structure which not only have improved diffusion characteristics but also extend the frequency range for a given diffuser size. The theory, design, advantages and limitations of these structures will be discussed and simulation results of their performance will be presented.
