Besides pulse width modulation, sigma delta modulation is an other way to build class D amplifiers. With modern power MOSFETs and high-speed drivers, it is possible to run a switching amplifier at frequencies beyond 1 MHz. In this paper the nonlinear effects of such an amplifier will be discussed and possibilities to reduce distortion in amplifiers with analog or digital sigma delta converters will be shown.
