Empirical Methods in Restorative Processing of Historical Recordings

An organized empirical procedure, used in the restoration of limited quality recordings, which utilizes available audio processing devices, and which has been successfully utilized for a decade by the author, is described. The procedure, requiring an intuitive understanding of the process, processing equipment, and the nature of recording defects, is logically explained, and examples of the results of the procedure demonstrated.
