A Matrixed Pressure Triplet for Full Surround Stereophonic Pickup

Document Thumbnail

A set of three pressure transducers, flush-mounted on the surface of a cylindrical or egg-shaped solid, is a sophisticated development of the Baffled Pair of Pressure Microphones presented by the author in 1986 (AES 80th Convention, Montreaux). It provides smooth, efficient directional characteristics for each microphone with minimal diffractive effects, and allows a 360 deg sampling of the surrounding acoustic field, its stereophonic image adjustable through an appropriate matrixing. Size and shape of the solid are discussed, and results of measurements and experimentation are presented.
