A Simple Theory of Room Diffraction

Document Thumbnail

By using an asymptotic diffraction result, valid at high frequencies for an infinite wedge, and decomposing it as an edge distribution, a simple and effective theory of diffraction has been devised. The theory has been previously applied to the external diffraction from the straight edges of a loudspeaker cabinet, and in this paper it is applied to the internal diffraction associated with the edges of a room. Calculations are presented for simple rectangular rooms and guidelines are given for more complex spaces.
