A model is presented that describes the transmission from voltage at the electric terminals of a headphone to the sound pressure at the eardrum. The headphone is modeled by its Thevenin sound pressure generator and its acoustic impedance seen from the listener's ear canal. Measurements of ten commercial headphones are carried out on 24 human subjects.
