Digital multipliers are unnecessary for digital audio quality interpolation. A 1792-tap Fine Impulse Response (FIR) filter with coefficients resitricted to the set (-1, 0, +1) has been designed and implemented for 64 fs, single-step interpolation. The multiplier-free FIR provides a steep transition band of 0.45 fs to 0.55 fs, and compensates for the passband magnetitude and phase distortions of a third order, switched-capacitor post-DAC filter. The entire interpolation system provides at least 74 dB of stopband rejection, with no more than +/-0.10 dB passband ripple.
