Space Information in Stereophony

Document Thumbnail

Since the introduction of stereophony, the question of the width of the basis has always been to the forefront of discussions, because it is often not possible, on account of the dimensions of the reproduction space in the home to obtain a sufficiently wide reproduction basis, which has hitherto been the prerequisite for an adequately large zone of good stereophonic audibility. We publish below a report on a new type of stereo recording technique, which even with reproduction through two loud-speakers a short distance apart furnishes a stereo-impression that had not hitherto been obtained under such conditions. The paper only deals with the domain of the stereo gramaphone record. Moreover, this process seems to us to be of quite special significance for stereo broadcasting, because here a way has been provided whereby a satisfactory stereo-impression can be obtained at least with broadcast receivers of the medium and top class.
