Improved Possibilities of Binaural Recording and Playback Techniques

Document Thumbnail

When some decades ago Artificial Head technology was introduced in the broadcasting industry, first attempts made clear that the technical properties of former Artificial Heads were neither adequate to ensure a satisfactory playback via headphone nor compatible with loudspeakers. As Artificial Head measurement technology has been used intensively in the field of sound diagnosis and analysis, the Artificial Head technique could be improved substantially. Furthermore, additional possibilities have been created by realizing mixing consoles allowing a considerably better quality during recording and playback. A satisfactory spatial reproduction is not only possible via headphone, but good loudspeaker compatibility is guaranteed as well. Using simple means a satisfactory spatial reproduction can also be achieved via loudspeaker. This contribution is to show the improved possibilities of binaural technology using Artificial Head recording microphones and mixing consoles during recording and playback.
