Loudspeaker Reproduction: Study on the Subwoofer Concept

Document Thumbnail

A stereo pair of full range loudspeakers and a stereo pair of loudspeakers reproducing the mid to high frequencies (satellites) plus one common low frequency sound loudspeaker (subwoofer) are compared. AB-AB listening tests were used to determine the absolute threshold of audible differences dependent on on the parameters of subwoofer location and crossover frequency. The performance of the subwoofer/satellite concept is discussed from the theoretical and practical point of view, bearing in mind future multi-channel sound systems.
